Modernizing the History and Timeline page required a complete experience overhaul.
The previous version was hard to navigate using the timeline bar shown here.
The overall layout did not work for mobile views. Navigation was difficult and the photos did not stack well on narrow screens. The JavaScript plugin running the timeline was removed and replaced by a lightweight CSS solution. A drop down menu was added to each section to make navigation easier, encouraging the user to explore the timeline.
The experience in mobile is improved by adding interactions to the section headers, turning them into helpful drop down menus both for mobile and desktop views.
